Polk County Bridge Replacement No. 25300141

  • Great River was selected to provide engineering services for the construction of a bridge over Bear Creek in Polk County.
  • The existing bridge was too narrow for the current heavy traffic to pass over safely and is load posted to prevent heavy loads from crossing the bridge.
  • The new bridge provides for safe passage of vehicles and passage of the 25 year flood with minimal roadway overtopping.
  • The bridge is 24 foot wide, allowing for two-way traffic.
  • The bridge is 185 foot long with 3 spans.
  • The most economical structure type for this bridge was found to be precast/prestressed concrete I-girder.
  • This helped keep the fill material to a minimum, therefore requiring minimal right-of-way acquisition.
  • This will also keep the approach roadway work to a minimum.
  • This project also included improvement of the approach roadway to provide for a safer alignment.
